Splurges are always a good idea when it comes to classic wardrobe staples, but for of-the-moment, trendy pieces, you’re better off to invest in items that won’t break the bank. Although it can be tricky at times, I try to rationalize any purchase I make in terms of cost per wear. By doing so, it allows my closet to feel current, all while being modest at the same time.
As I’m sure you know, velvet hit the fashion world by storm and is currently one of the hottest trends for fall and winter. While I do love it and fully appreciate it’s soft and plush texture, I’m not quite sure how long it’s shelf-life will be. With that being said that, I’ve been carefully to only invest in velvet pieces (like the turtleneck in the pictures above) that are relatively inexpensive, because at the end of the day, it’s still just a trend, and like any trend, it will come and go. Moral of the story – be savvy with your buys and your closet will always feel up-to-date….aaand you’ll still have room for a splurge here or there.
